Skyroom at Del Mar

**Winner announcement of Holistically Fit’s Summer e-book can be found here.**

It’s summer which means naturally I’m finding every excuse to travel to get out of the Arizona heat.  I always make several trips to my home state of Cali, first stop before heading up to Nor Cal – Newport Beach to visit my girlfriend Melayne. (She will be my partner in crime next month when we go to Ireland and London for 10 days!) We were invited by her amazing parents to go to the races at Del Mar, Where the Turf meets the Surf!  A few days prior I headed to a local antiques store and found this vintage hat by Joseph’s in New York.

This was my outfit, I apologize for the poor back lighting, I’m on vacation and these are straight uploaded from my point and shoot.  I should have forced a flash.

We watched from one of the Skyrooms which is pretty much the best view where you can see the entire track.

So, as you can see I was betting on the nice horse names – until the last when I realized what I should have been doing.

About 4 races in I realized that my technique wasn’t working.  About $20 in I had a losing streak.  So, I decided to study the jockey’s statistics and one in particular caught my eye for one of the races.  I bet on him for the win for the next race and he came in 2nd. For race 10 I said, I’ll bet another $2 on him for the win.  And he won!  Which then made me think I should have just thrown in a $20.  So for my $2 bet I won $18.  Melayne however walked away with $190 from the day – she did bigger bets and she did a Trifecta in a box and her top 3 placed which gave her a huge win.  Hard to do, but a fun risk for $6!  You can also do a $5 bet just for a horse to place which means somewhere in the top 3. You can win $25.  I mean that’s a pretty awesome return. I can see how this horse betting can get really addicting.   So now I have a favorite jockey and when I return, all bets will be on him.

Can’t wait for our next time at the races!  For more information visit the Del Mar Racing website.
