TIPS BEFORE INSTALLING A WALL TRELLIS

By Diana Elizabeth, dianaelizabethblog.com

Plan to maximize the wall space

1

Measure the wall width and height and write it down as you shop for trellis sizes.

TIP: If you want a wall to be full, place trellis closer together about 12-24" apart.

Same side of the trellis

2

Before you install the trellises, check that the same side are facing. Decide if the vertical or horizontal boards are in the foreground or background.

Planting climbers

3

As you shop, look for plants that have branches facing the same direction. If they go straight up, plant at an angle so the branches are angled toward the trellis.

Fertilize for root growth

4

Fish and seaweed fertilizer can help with root development. Water well and deeply, see directions on the bottle.

Avoid plants growing behind the trellis

5

Keep branches in front of the trellis and tie to the trellis. Avoid allowing them to grow behind as they may damage the trellis.
