It’s been a quiet month
Less time on social (breaking the addiction of constantly checking or posting stories) has allowed me to daydream and get more projects done. I’ve also been so conscious of my spending – I want to consume less (and I have) and be mindful of what I’m buying. Not being on social media saves you a lot of money, and not swinging by the thrift store every week because it’s right around the corner from my gym also helps.
I went to my first estate sale of the year. It was a private sale, so I had to RSVP (private meaning I follow the estate sale company and often on their social media they will say you must email them to attend, otherwise I find my estate sales via https://www.estatesales.net/). I arrived maybe 20 minutes after they opened and nearly all the big ticket items were sold already. That’s ok though, had I wanted anything I would have been in line.
But let me share this powder room. It was upholstered. The fabric is called Ophelia. I believe by now it’s a bit vintage and hard to find but how classic is this? The ceiling too! Wow!

I loved the cabinet turned into a sink, that bowl is a sink!!! WHAT?!! The Venetian mirror was lovely too – and still available.
I saw the silver tray under the toilet paper. What a nice presentation for your spare roll. Or in this case looks like the main roll. I took a photo to remind myself to buy one at the thrift store and then I saw it was tagged at $5 so I bought it. I just can’t put an oversized TP roll on it. Definitely doesn’t look as cute.
Anyway, I bought some pretty boring things – kitchen things that I needed that were a deal. I have so many beautiful things already I am not looking to replace anything so that was OK. I still admired the collection and the decorating. But it wasn’t an overly maximalist home, it was a curated with pretty things and even though I got there 20 minutes after they opened, it seemed like a lot of the big items were sold (resellers) — again, nothing that I was really interested in for the price.

I got around to adding the spare fabric I had to the CB2 snake lampshade which used to be in Benjamin’s office before I decided it would look better in my closet. So now I have the same print on the walls, curtain and the lamp shade. I love a room just covered in all the same fabric. Usually something you can only do with designer fabric, although Spoonflower has a print to order situation with graphics that you can do this as well – you’ll just have to really look for timeless because it’s a lot of graphic designers creating these patterns that tend to lean more trendy.
I believe the designers in the industry are leaders for a reason and the cost is with great reason, it is timeless and you can’t go wrong with their quality.
Onto the gardening…

What’s staring back at me is that hole by a wood borer and it is so annoying! I could keep cutting it down until it’s gone but I just can’t… it hasn’t affected the health of the rose yet and I read in an online thread that it is not necessary to cut it all the way back.
I pruned back the roses, and Benjamin was in charge of refreshing the mulch! He did a good job. Although I have to say we need to find some kind of ledge to keep the bark from 1- blowing away over time (which is probably unavoidable) and 2 – just keep it inside the border so it’s not in the middle of the street. I’m thinking the landscape edging, or mulch glue.Â
Anyway, Valentine’s Day is around the corner, I feel like I’m in an in-between of Chinese New Year and Valentine’s Day so the decorating overlaps. I can’t wait to decorate for spring! I hope you have had a great first month of the year!
