How’s your December going?

Mariah Carey Christmas Concert in Phoenix

We’re halfway through December and I can’t believe it! I think I’m about done with my Christmas shopping, it’s not a long list but I’ve been collecting over time and that feels great to wrap everything, and get it out of the house. Sometimes the gifts feel a little bit like clutter to me which is funny given I’m such a maximalist!

I’ve been pacing myself through this season. I turned down some work because I want to be focused on this month of being present and actually enjoying the holidays. Sometimes specific jobs can add some unnecessary stress or just distractions general so I try to avoid it when I want to enjoy a specific season in my life!

Salt + Lime in Scottsdale (Ambiance is fun for Christmas, but don't expect much with the food)

A few life updates and advice I’d like to share:

  • We saw Mariah Carey for her Christmas concert in Phoenix. It was days after filming our Homeworthy Christmas episode. It was my 7th time seeing her.
  • We added a Christmas inflatable on our roof, it’s Mariah Carey haha! (I’ll embed the reel below) I also added a motion sensor so when friends walked up it would start the “All I want for Christmas” song at a specific part. It scared my friends then they thought it was hilarious. I only had it up for the ornament party.
  • I dropped a small external hard drive on CARPET and now $750 later I have to get it fixed. Boo. I recommend backing up your hard drives like Backblaze. I canceled my subscription because it was $100 a year and well you can say I’ll be reinstating that membership.
  • I already have my new Christmas bins in! I ordered more from The Container Store – you can save a percentage if you order online and pickup. I need more and I’ll be packing it up by ROOM so I can unpack easier. I’m also labeling them. I’ll show you when I am done. I also added new shelving from IKEA for Christmas storage. After working with Williams-Sonoma for a lot of events around here, I need to store my goodies!
  • We got the garage floor/kitchen garden/mudroom entrance concrete refinished in an expoxy-like finish. I guess it’s not epoxy but it’s more flexible and I am so excited about it.
  •  We are hosting a NYE party, mob style. We have never hosted a NYE party but this year we’re doing it and it’s because I wanted a mob style party and Amber said to do it for NYE and we can celebrate the ball drop in NYC time which is 10 pm. I can’t wait!
Celebrated the baby in our group, she turned 40! Cala in Scottsdale!

There is so much wisdom getting older. I think a few things I’m realizing later in my life that I wish I realized sooner, but I think I’ve done a pretty good job so far and I learn quick. I remind myself to keep doing what I am doing at the pace I want, with my calendar with my friendships, and keep building them stronger, don’t over schedule and be present wherever I am.

I’ve got some challenging personal goals coming up and Benjamin and I are going to sit down together like we do every year to go over planning for the future, finances, how to reach our goals and enjoy life! It’s a short easy quick thing we do when we open up our laptops and go through excel sheets and it’s good to be on the same page. Do you do that with your partner?

Anyway I hope you are having a great few weeks so far, don’t get burnt out! Enjoy the gathering, go if you are excited, and rest when you need it. The time is fleeting but also stay home and enjoy those twinkle lights and figure out what you need to do in order to enjoy the holidays! 2025 will be here before we know it!
