HOW TO BUILD AND PREP FOR RAISED GARDEN BEDS

Gardening has many health benefits along with growing our own food - like being in nature and exercise.

When deciding where to place your garden beds, observe the sun. Ideally your bed should get morning sun and be shaded by evening – this idea is best for warmer climates, like Phoenix, Zone 9.

Buy 2" thick boards

1

8-12" in height Is ideal, and you decide the length. TIP: Don’t make your beds wider than 4′ since you want to reach the middle from both sides of the box.

Rip up the grass

2

Using a shovel, turn the grass  upside down or remove it completely (best bet to avoid any grass seeds).

This is the time to add drip irrigation. Contact your landscaper and have the water source ready for the new garden beds.

Lay down cardboard

3

Start collecting old shipping boxes. Make lots of layers (I did 3), it will decompose and naturally block out weeds.

Order mulch delivery

4

A local landscape company will deliver – tell them size of your boxes and they can help you determine how much you need.
