I am constantly donating but not like this. I finally had enough after unable to move clothes around because it was stuffed. THIS closet was stuffed. Aye.

I ended up adding 1/3 more to those empty hangers after I posted this on my Instagram story. After I shared it on stories people were going wild so then I decided to create a post that shares more about my thought process.
Some thoughts to help motivate you to purge:
- I have been slowly purging but last night I went crazy. I was sick of holding onto clothes I haven’t worn for years.
- Yes clothes seem to be sooo $$$ now but it doesn’t mean if we got rid of clothes we wouldn’t have anything to wear. If anything if we will think way more thoughtfully about what we bring home.
- I wear my dresses and outfits on repeat. I’m not a celebrity.
- Things that I consider: Age appropriate, quality, how confident I felt in it, and does it fit (be obviously the dryer totally shrunk stuff ). Is it my color palette? Too tight is not comfortable.
- I drop off designer items to consignment, anything they don’t take I give to my single mom friends who have expressed interest in my hand me downs – or charity thrift.
- Donating costumes was hard for me.
- Benjamin said we weren’t running a theater.
- It’s just clothes!! Buy new stuff, you’re going to like it more anyway even if it costs more $.
- If you miss it you’ll find an updated version probably better quality now.

This helped me a lot. If I was “meh” about it if Benjamin or a friend came over and told me to wear it, that told me something. Either the fit was off, or I knew the color wasn’t really for me and I needed to let it go. If I hadn’t reached for it for a long time, like a REALLY long time, gone. It’s not like clothes are scarce nowadays. Sure the price is absolutely crazy but which is better – quality or quantity?

I know it’s hard, the money was spent. We were once excited about it, now we aren’t. So you can drop it off at consignment, that’s what I do with my designer items, and the rest you donate to charity, drop it off to a friend, whatever you want to do!

I don’t know what happens when you get older (I’m now 44), but the quality of items is a real thing. Sure I do love my H&M, but it all depends on how it’s made and if it doesn’t look great, send it back or let it go.
Especially if it doesn’t it or make you excited to wear it. I have a pair of sweatpants that make me feel better than some items in my closet!
I think another question to ask yourself is, if I were to see this today would I buy this??

Also if it does’t fit, why keep it? If you ever lose weight, you’d probably end up buying all new things anyway. If you think you’ll sell it, well how long has it taken you? Is it even worth that extra $? I say the space is worth more to me.
So far clearing out visual things I don’t like even in my closet has already helped me feel calmer.

I know clothing has skyrocketed in price. Now it seems as though dresses are $200 or more! What happened?? I won’t tell you how much I paid for a new dress but it was more than my birthday dress when I turned 40 and that was a crazy splurge. But I will say, it makes me stop and think. Is this going to make me feel fabulous? Because that’s all I have room for. I don’t need clothing for my body just to cover it up, I need clothing that is going to make me feel wonderful!
So if anything with the prices now, save up for that outfit. I’d rather have 1 great piece than 5 so-so pieces. Especially since I rewear my clothes!

Your beauty drawer, all the drawers in your desk… this is what I’m doing this summer. Also sewing projects.

On a personal level, something happened to me (well a LOT) since my dad died. I was so exhausted mentally with the things I had to deal with that went behind just the tasks. So I grabbed every small item in my house, the visual cutter and threw them in boxes in our storage shed. They stayed there for months some still in there just to get it out of the way. I later went through it, put some things back into our home but I wanted to share this incase you want to clean things out but aren’t ready to let go yet – but don’t do this too long with clothes that they might sneak back in.
I’m trying to clear out every drawer and thing I can on days I need to stay busy. I’ve also decided to not watch TV during the day if I can help it. Do the thing you need to do during the day and at night take a shower, be in pajamas and watch TV. Usually it’s in the background for me as I’m doing something on my computer, researching, planning, etc. We started watching Mad Men, we’re in season 6 now I LOVE IT!!!
