The Laundry Mudroom Plans

Hawthorne black linen wallpaper by york wall coverings

I
didn’t really intend to wallpaper the worst room in the house – let me clarify – the worst room one could possibly want to wallpaper with all the small walls, the archway, the nooks, the pipes in the way and windows, yeah that room. Our laundry mudroom.

But when I saw this wallpaper named Hawthorne designed by Rifle Paper Co. with York Wallcoverings on Anthropologie’s site, my heart skipped a beat. I originally saw the multicolored print, a dark navy background with colorful flowers. I said no in my head as I realized it wasn’t removable and I only know removable wallpaper, after all, I change my mind all the time and I’m always redoing things around here. But as my friend Brandy reminded me, all wallpaper is removable, just some easier than others. *wink*

But then I revisited removable wallpapers and couldn’t find the traditional prints I want (remember I’ve installed plenty of removable and still love them). I kept coming back to this print, then after research, it lead me down a path to discovering other variations of this wallpaper – there are 5 different color combos.  I wanted something different and it seemed as though “traditional” wallpaper was the only variation that was giving me the prints, colors and what I wanted!

The vision

So then I couldn’t stop dreaming about it and here we are with the decorating plans for the new space – and I went with a black linen, thanks Kate for suggesting that color when I would have never considered going so dark –

Wallpaper: Hawthorne print, by York Wallcoverings (available in 5 various color combos) / Hook: Anthropologie / Vintage 1940s Hollywood Regency Round Tole Wall Mirror: eBay / Handmade Jute 100% Natural Rug Indian Braided style: eBay (similar plain scalloped, single line, pink, navyyellow scalloped outline) / Side table: Amazon

I’m debating on the side table right now, I think one thing at a time and once I get the wallpaper hung I will know. I also thought I’d paint the bead board that is along side the dryer black but I’m going to wait until I get the wallpaper up to decide if the room is too dark – or even paint it a lovely shade of sage green. I have a color I love that I’ve already used in our home.

This room has undergone many stages of transformation over the 10 years. It takes so much time to add things, build custom cabinetry (that is made to look old), move outlets, replace a water heater, remove a door and window (when we expanded to the garden room) add sun tunnels, install more overhead lighting, I mean it goes and on! I love our new black door that we installed when we did the garage, and to make Benjamin happy, I had to tint the windows but I love it, the reflection is so nice it just looks like a mirror from the outside.

So here we are now, moved the alarm to the right, moved the wall plug further down (not sure why it was in the middle of the wall!) and this weekend I hope to tackle the wallpaper. Wish me luck!
