OBSERVE THE LANDSCAPE FOR 4 SEASONS

If you are observing your property for the first time, a year will allow you to understand the areas that need shade, what to remove or keep, and the best location for a garden.

DECIDE ON A COLOR PALETTE

Think of decor, it’s the same outside as it in inside your home, you can have a color palette. It will help at the nursery deciding what flowers to purchase.

PLANT INDIGENOUS TREES

Buy plants that are used to the climate where you live to ensure it will survive. Don’t try to force trees to make it in your location if it’s just not meant to be.

EVERGREEN OR DECIDUOUS TREES

Evergreen trees stay green and don't drop their leaves in the fall. Deciduous trees shed their leaves which allows winter sun to shine on plants and lawns or through windows.

ASK FOR ADVICE

Ask professionals or someone who has a landscape you admire, about what trees they enjoy. Drive around neighborhoods and take photos and show them to your local nursery.

PERENNIAL OR ANNUALS?

If your goal is to fill an area permanently, plant perennials. Annuals you need to replant annually. Some perennials are annuals in extreme climates, read the plant label. 

FRAME WINDOWS WITH TREES

Trees should be planted between windows, not in front of them. Use trees to frame your home and provide shade and take into consideration full grown size.

LANDSCAPE WITH GARDEN PLANTS

No room for a designated garden space or maintenance? No problem! Plant basil, rosemary, artichoke, even chives within your landscape!
