Epcot at Disney World was hands down Mr. Wonderful and my favorite park to check out, primarily due to the little countries I’ll show you next week but for now, I really couldn’t wait to tour this little Vision House in the Innoventions building which was a 15 minute tour about a home created to be as energy efficient as possible.
Benjamin and I are also very into homes, we watch HGTV (he doesn’t watch it on his own, he’d rather watch ESPN), and we love home tours – going to the Willo Tour this Sunday!
Anyway, I took a few shots of this mock home to share with you. For more information click here. They list products and more photos.
A little test to see how energy efficient you are…I didn’t take it, I checked out by the first question but I think Mr. Wonderful got an A+. Since we’re married and we live together that means I get an A+ too.
A tunnel of facts, just wanted to show you a few. We do need spray foam insulation in our attic. The heat in the desert is brutal on our bill.
Here are some tips on a little card I picked up:
- Set home thermostat to 85-90 F if you are on vacation. For each degree you raise the temp, you will save 2-3% on your cooling bill.
- Before buying new, consider heirloom or vintage furniture (reusable)
- Recycle – recycling one aluminum can save enough energy to run a TV for 3 hours
I especially love the heirloom idea. In fact, I love gifts that are from vintage stores or thrift stores. I think it’s great to have things already made.
The inside, they have a see thru wall to show you what the inside walls look like – not for design like I had thought (hmmm, that’s weird). So they use insulation in the walls. The upstairs is a mock so we weren’t able to go there.
No, someone didn’t leave the toilet seat up. Actually it was playing music and automatically went up and would close when done. It’s a Japanese toilet (go figure those smarty Asians), and it’s pretty cool. I think what I loved about this bathroom was not it’s just it’s energy efficiency but that wall behind the claw foot tub – and the claw foot tub itself! I want one! Love the set up.
This little greenhouse was so cute too, and that sliding barn door. I want a little greenhouse…but I don’t think that’s really necessary for Phoenix weather, but it wasn’t fun when the frost came and killed some of my garden. I just love the way it looks, don’t you?
List of products can be found here. If you click on the logos, it will show you what was featured in the home.
Diana Elizabeth couldn’t find who made the barn doors, sorry. If you find it, let her know.
