This month, I finally shook off my vacation mode mentality and sadness about my dog dying stage (I still occasionally cry and the other night I had a dream about him which made me really happy and then he died in my dream and I woke up hyperventilating crying – seriously I cannot make this up!). I decided it was time to create some joyful activities and have been out and about meeting with creative friends to get business going again. Coffee, phone conferences, chats, lunches, it’s been a very busy month, having a few of these each week and it’s been so wonderful for my soul – personally and creatively.
One – I love people, new friends, creatives, learning about people and finding ways to collaborate and encourage one another. I know for a fact I was successful as a photographer when I was meeting with industry people because referrals – suggestions, creativity, that investment is everything for business. Two – it gets me out of my freaking pajamas.
I love what blogging brings to my life, I recently wrote an article that will be published in the spring issue of Artful Blogging magazine (find at Michael’s, JoAnns) about what blogging means to me – why I do it, and how it has positively changed my life for the better.
It’s also ironic, about two years ago when I had attended a blogging conference in Los Angeles, it was suggested I go into style blogging. I scoffed at the idea, how tiresome. Get dressed? Do my hair? But my new friend Minh (who now has hundreds of thousands of IG followers since the workshop – I obviously did not get a good enough takeaway lol), he said I need to showcase my glam. I had just showed up in a Kardashian jumpsuit and he thought I was glam, well, it took me a while to warm up to the idea.
^^ Can we take a second and acknowledge my parka (similar) is from Kmart? Like really, is that a bargain bomb or what? I paid zilch for it – I went to a Kmart that was closing next door to Chuck-E-Cheese, I was at my girlfriend’s daughter’s birthday party (auntie duties) and I wandered in because it had been years since I went into a Kmart!
So, I would hardly say I’m glam all the time or I’m really a style blogger but I think I finally felt comfortable in my own skin to finally put more of myself out there. It took a bit of bravery – and it encouraged me to learn more with photography and keep at it! The new studio helps a lot too – I cranked the heater while I “worked” in there.
So yeah, you can say blogging has done some great things for me – upgrades, continual learning, making new friends and of course – the desire to travel!
