HOW TO KILL JEALOUSY

Jealousy can be the main source of most relational conflict, and a struggle for many of us at different times. I want to share tips and pieces of a sermon about dealing with jealousy so we can protect our hearts!

HEALTH

What causes quarrels and what causes fights among you? Is it not this, that your passions are at war within you? You desire and do not have, so you murder. You covet and cannot obtain, so you fight and quarrel. You do not have, because you do not ask. You ask and do not receive, because you ask wrongly, to spend it on your passions.   – James 1:16-17

HOW TO PREVENT JEALOUSY

Have a candid, open, unfiltered conversation with God about how you feel.

DEVELOP A HABIT OF CELEBRATION

Speak truth. Ex: You look great! (because that is true she does).  Instead of: I’m so happy for you that you fit in size 0 pants! (Because you might not be happy but you can admit she looks great.)

The example you set in front of your children can help them celebrate others too – an example given is when the other team wins or another player does really great. You could go up to the player at the end of the game and say, “You played a great game, you should be proud,” and say it to their parents too.

WORK TOGETHER

Perhaps you know this person or they are a friend, can you collaborate on a project or support them in some way? This will turn you into their cheerleader.

REMEMBER WE ALL HAVE GOALS AND WANT TO ACHIEVE THEM

When it comes to how hard others are working in the same industry, I think about how goals might differ. They might have to work really hard because they need to put kids through school, or pay off debt. I should be cheering for them to make a living to provide!

I have found supporting and saying a kind thing that is truthful to how I feel and positive for them to hear has helped my heart! I like to celebrate others and want to continue to uplift others and stop being down on myself. I hope this helps you kill or prevent any jealousy in your life!
