Full blown obsession for John
John Mayer, The Search for Everything Tour in Phoenix
If you follow me on Instagram you already know I went to John Mayer and it was my 5th time seeing him live – I mean if you read my blog you already knew that because it was like I was counting down to Christmas. I successfully sold our previous floor seats to a friend who bought them as a birthday gift to her boss. This was the second time I upgraded seats as the concert got closer – see this post a few years back. I secure seats, then I look for better seats and sell off my other ones. It’s shameful, I know.
When Sommer and I sat in our seats and realized how close we were we both looked at each other and screamed. I knew I picked my John Mayer partner in crime. The sweet couple next to us asked how much we paid for our tickets (never a good idea to ask it’s like asking on a Southwest flight). We bought them for $295 a piece and he paid $500 each ticket and added, he got a poster. We chuckled over it with him because I said, oh the one at the merchandise store for $10? And yes, I already own it, I bought it at the Vegas show and it’s hanging in my photo studio.
I told him not to stress about it because I would pay $500 to sit there. I hope I made him feel better. I never want people to feel bad about themselves or have regret so I always try to look for a positive spin.
He bought during American Express Pre-Sale as did I for our original floor seats nestled by the mix. I am not quite sure if the pre-sale makes any sense unless you just want to secure seats at any price. I bought these 5th row tickets a week out and through Ticketmaster! I don’t really know how that happened, but I am thankful.
^ Better view of how close we actually were.
Below is the seat chart of what was available a week out, the day of it was probably 95% sold. You can see where our original seats were and how much further we moved up. We were SMACK DAB in the middle! It was worth every penny, and every second I got to look at him actually perform just a few feet away and not have to look at the big screen. As Sommer said, he was close enough that we could be in the same house!
The opener was The Night Game, and they were shockingly good, like really good. They had a little cool 80s vibe to their songs! They shared how they got on the tour – John Mayer had heard their song on Spotify and they received an email inviting them to open with him. John Mayer picked them!
I didn’t see them at the Vegas show because I don’t usually care for openers. We caught them this time because they didn’t hit the stage until 7:45 and we had arrived late (actually hoping we’d miss sitting around). We were both incredibly surprised – look up “The Outfield” by The Night Game, I’m about to download the entire album.
Back to John. Words cannot describe how I feel when I see him, like I’m seriously so pumped screaming like a little girl. It’s equivalent to how I feel about Mariah Carey (here and here) but I’m less girly freak out about it, I just stare at him and I’m in awe, like he feels like an old, close friend who I have known through the years – some songs make my heart wrench (Dreaming with a Broken Heart), others remind me of live moments, like when I lived in LA (Something’s Missing).
Over the years I wouldn’t ever say that I had a crush on him like that, I truly loved his voice and his songs. But today, he’s looking incredibly nice for 40. Can you believe it? I remember my gf asking me if I had to get a tattoo what would I get – I don’t have any (and have no desire and my parents would still kill me!) and she said, if I had to, like at gun point – what would it be? So, drumroll, I’d get – “Life” scripted on the back of my right arm like John Mayer (see pic here). But I’d probably get it size 12 font.
Can it get much better? You can say I looked up meet and greet tickets. They are going for $2300 EACH and from what I saw, you must buy two – it does include really good seats. I might sacrifice an overseas trip next summer to do this. I mean, I’m half serious but I did research. What would you guys do if it was someone you absolutely loved? Would you do it?
I saw on a guy’s Instagram that he had 60 seconds with him at the meet and greet. What would you say in those 60 seconds? I would just want to hold his hand – because that’s talent how he plays the guitar! LOL. I would probably cry from being overwhelmed with emotions, definitely ugly cry. The connection I have with him is about his songs and his voice, it’s like he’s my best friend!
Well thanks for letting me ramble yet again about my love for John Mayer. You guys are really the best readers.
I also look at my blog as my personal little diary and I like to upload some big moments in life so I can reflect back on them. Sometimes it’s nice to take a break and remember that my blogging started with me just sharing daily life and simple pleasures! Now it’s time for you to look up your favorite artist and buy those tickets! Do it!
