LANDSCAPING WITH HERBS + VEGETABLES

By Diana Elizabeth, www.dianaelizabethblog.com

Not everyone can have a designated garden area to grow herbs and vegetables. That's ok!  You can use your front yard or any space you have and plant your favorite vegetables and herbs right in the landscape. Using the space you already have will be functional, and  give you the garden you've always wanted! Here are some of my favorite to use in every day landscaping primarily for their beauty.

ROSEMARY

Rosemary can get very large if you allow it - like a bush size! No one would even notice it was an herb. It will be evergreen and require very little maintenance. You could make a hedge with rosemary.

ARTICHOKE

These large leafed plants are artichokes - before they sprout the artichoke heads! They take up a lot of room but they are wildly spectacular. See next story to see them in bloom - (NEXT)

ARTICHOKE

In bloom! Almost waist to my height tall (5'7") WOW! Imagine your neighbors walking by seeing these gorgeous blooms!

BASIL

There are many varieties of basil so you can have shades of green or purple in your landscape! Basil will flower, but be aware when they do, the basil tastes different and it is a signal to seed so don't let them all flower.

LAVENDER

Not all lavender is edible, many are ornamental so check with your nursery which are OK for culinary usage. English is most commonly used for cooking. Give them large enough room to grow.

As you can see, there are no rules. You can find space for just about any of your favorite herbs and vegetables and fruits - maybe even melons in your landscape. Use the space you have and fill it with a mixture of your favorite florals and vegetables. The bees will love it and your harvest will be plentiful! ENJOY!
