A Quick Trip to the Midwest

Hello hello how is your summer?  It’s amusing that my blog has the weather of Phoenix on the main page banner so you know if I’m stuck inside or outside gardening. The other night at 9 pm I decided it was time, it was ONLY 100 degrees so I went out with my loppers and start cutting our tree out front because it needed a trim. I am dying not being able to get outside and garden per usual and I do sneak out a lot during the day and I come back feeling like my insides are half cooked!  Sometimes I think I want to start a YouTube with our gardening pruning activities just for fun.

Well, a few weekends ago we escaped the rising heat and went to the midwest where Benjamin is from, IL. His family has a family reunion every year and this is our second one we’ve been able to attend since we’ve been married for 11 years. It feels like the third because my MIL hosted a casual reception party for us after we got married in Mahomet, IL.

It was fun, it was only a day on Saturday in Wheaton, IL hosted by his cousin. It was a lovely home and the backyard was incredible.

We went to University of Wisconsin-Madison and a Cubs game in Chicago! It was a busy weekend!

There were family photos taken but I’m also not sure how they would feel about being on my very public blog, so I’ll leave them out. :) We had a great time, it was a whirlwind and I was exhausted when I came back — we took a 6:30 am flight back and I had to move my personal training back a few days just to feel like I was adjusting back to life.

I’m also amazed the Midwest doesn’t have backyard fences! Being from California originally the properties are smaller and we all need fences. It’s just amazing, but they are bigger properties too.

I posted a bunch of stories about the homes I saw in Madison and I’ll embed them below at the end of this blog post, if you missed them. All I could think was, how nice Madison hasn’t succumbed to the black and white home trend. Yes, I know my house is black and white with red brick but I’m saying some homes just shouldn’t be that color (most of them actually) but these homes were classic and could definitely pull it off, but how wonderful they didn’t, you’ll see what I mean.

I hope you are having a great start to your week!
