Every gal is busy in her own way whether single, married, and/or a mommy. Every gal on the go needs time for herself, no matter what season of life she is in as a woman. There is work, house chores, errand running, people to see, places to go. We can can go all day, just by ourselves doing our thing, or with little ones by our side doing their thing, but no matter what, we all want a little me time, even if it’s for a few minutes, right?
Here are a few ways I find time for me to relax and slow down.
Mornings in the Garden
In the early mornings if I don’t have an early appointment, I jump out of bed (or maybe peel myself out), and with an iced vanilla latte in hand I head straight to the garden. I love waking up in the mornings and seeing how things have sprouted, grown a bit, or flowered. I stick by the phrase, The best fertilizer is the gardener’s shadow. I think what it means is if a gardener can check on her garden every day this insures things are OK, water is running, weeds are being pulled, and checking for any pest problems.
The Skinny Cow® Creamy Iced Coffees come in three flavors: Vanilla Latte, Mocha Latte & Creamy Cappuccino, found in the refrigerated section. I grab a bottle, the vanilla latte is my favorite, and toss on a SPF garden hat and I’m out the patio door in my garden wellies! Sometimes I pour it into a glass full of ice.
If I don’t have time for breakfast or I have to head out really quick for a meeting, I grab one and my “me time” ends up being in the car listening which makes the drive much more enjoyable.
The garden is looking good and I’m anxious for some summer squash – I keep checking under the leaves to see what’s growing!
Our next garden project is to pea gravel the garden area because as Mr. Wonderful reminds me that I have now created an obstacle course for the lawn mower. I’m still trying to find a person to do it, and how I want it done – I think I’d like a brick border along the current cement path.
Reading books or magazines
After my errand running and appointments, or if I have an audition, I like to relax, and maybe have lunch or dinner on my porch. The weather is so lovely right now and I’ll find any excuse to sit outside and maybe read a bit with something indulgent.
We use cloth napkins around here – I made a stack of them when we first got married with fun fabrics and I love it – it’s not only cuter to use, more economically friendly, but we buy significantly less paper towels.
This is my view from the patio area – I found a spot for some of the cast iron benches from Craigslist! The other one is off to the left in my garden area. Benjamin reminds me this has made it a wee bit more difficult to mow around – I seem to be really good at making pretty obstacles, but it’s so heavy we can’t keep moving it so there it will rest.
My lunches are quickly made – packaged salad kits are my favorite. I found these Skinny Cow® Blissful Truffle Candy Bars, which comes in two flavors – Milk and Dark Chocolate. The milk chocolate is so decadent, you have to taste it yourself. I found the truffle candy bars in the snack aisle.
Vegging in front of the TV
Lay like vegetables, be still like broccoli. I go into a comma where my eyes are open but my brain is temporarily shut off – this is really like zoning in front of the TV when a sporting game is on. But it feels heavenly to sprawl out on the couch in stretchy pants.
The portioned delivery meals are my favorite because Mr. Wonderful helps and he enjoys it too – and we whip up some pretty wicked meals together!
Post meal tends to be us time, but if sports is on the tube, that’s his time, and my time is sitting next to him vegging with a Skinny Cow® Vanilla Almond Crunch Bar, so yummy, and maybe a magazine. Is it strange my preferred reading material are home improvement books like This Old House, or gardening books? That’s just what I seem to be consumed with this season.
There are three Skinny Cow® Chocolate Dipped Ice Cream Bars flavors including creamy Vanilla Almond Crunch, Double Caramel Swirl, and Triple Chocolate Ripple. I’m crazy about almond, it reminds me of everything European, I love almond anything, croissants, cookies and soap (not to eat, clearly).
