I woke up early on a Saturday morning which is rare – but, the Hello Kitty Cafe Truck was in Scottsdale for one day only and I had to get there! *squeal* Hello Kitty is so iconic, like everything that was part of my sweet childhood goodness. The cutest pencil boxes, notebooks, backpacks, it made studying and being a kid so fun!
When I think of Sanrio I think of my mom and dad, spoiling me rotten taking me to Sanrio almost every other weekend at the mall in Sacramento. I had so much Sanrio stuff my classmates thought my dad owned a Sanrio store. I was always rewarded and encouraged when I got A’s and I was a good student (obviously, you know you all wanted to partner with the Asian kid to get the A *wink*).
My favorite characters at the time were Pochacco (the little dog) and Keroppi (the frog) – I had a huge love for Hello Kitty, My Melody, Kiki and Lala (the star twins) and the twins but there was something about different age groups liking different characters, you might know what I mean. My brother liked Sanrio as well – the We are Dinosaurs characters were so fun for him.
^^ Water bottles in the shape of a bow! I die.
Hello Kitty also reminds me of our Japanese exchange student, Aiko, who sent us huge boxes filled with Sanrio goodies when she returned to Tokyo. I loved her and her friends so much, my little 4th grade heart could have burst as we kept being pen pals for years after. They wrote on the cutest character stationery and I remember once, my friend’s mom wrote me back because she was studying hard for her exams! I wish I could find them now and see how they are doing.
The Hello Kitty Cafe had cookies, macaroons, shirts, headbands lots on the menu to choose from. We got there right after 10 am when they opened and there was already a line of at least 150+ and it was quite the wrap around line! Such good moms and dad’s taking their girls to this, I love it.
I enjoy feeling nostalgic over things that were a huge part of my childhood – Mariah Carey, Lisa Frank, NKOTB, Hello Kitty, and 90210. It’s cute to see the popular things come back, My Little Pony and Care Bears and I love that our nieces are loving Hello Kitty, it’s like one of the rites of passage of being little. ♥
I’m sharing these goodies or I would have gladly taken them out of the package to try them (and take a more impactful photo) but I think they are better off saved for a little girl to have them be a part of her special memory.
The cafe resides in Irvine and will remain there for a bit as its residency, but if you’re looking for future Hello Kitty Cafe Truck tour schedule, check out their Facebook page.
Thanks Sanrio for being a part of my childhood, and being a good motivation for getting all those A’s in school! *wink* Who was your favorite Sanrio character? Do you have littles who love Hello Kitty?
