Lilyana Elizabeth: Tucson Birth Story Photography

*

Oh where do I begin?  If you’ve been following for the last few months, you’d know that my precious sister Ariel was due June 3rd.  Due to some back problems she already had that worsened during pregnancy, it became really difficult for her and so an induction was necessary.  Being the total crazy scheduler that I am, I loved that Lily’s arrival was on the calendar, I’m not gonna lie.  Ariel checked in Wednesday evening into St. Joseph’s Hospital in Tucson where she began her induction ready to deliver on Thursday.

These were shot primarily with my 35mm/1.4 lens which is the perfect wide angle lens to capture the entire story.  Thank you to the incredible staff at St. Joseph’s hospital for being so accommodating to Ariel and myself, allowing me to get in close and capture these images.

Welcome to the world, Lily.  My prayer is for you to know Him and allow God to guide your every step in this world.  Congratulations to Joey and Ariel, I love you both so very very much.  Welcome to parenthood, I’m here for you both every.step.of.the.way.for.e.ver.

And so, the story begins.

Wednesday evening signing the paperwork and getting started on the induction.

Last night of peace and quiet for a good while.

Thursday May 27 – birth day.

Breathing through a contraction.

Josie braiding Ariel’s hair.  Initially Ariel requested bangs and we laughed telling her she’ll be so sweaty she probably won’t want bangs.

Christina holding Ariel’s hand.  Christina is like a second mom who just so happens to live next door.

You can see the contraction in the print out.

Christina, Josie and me, aka the “coaches”

At 3 p.m. it was time for Ariel to push.  We had to wait on the doctor and this is Ariel’s impatient pose…

You can’t see it here, but she actually started drumming her hands on her tummy waiting for the doctor to get in, it was so funny.

Waiting for another contraction to start pushing…

And just a few more pushes and Lily was out.  There is something about watching your sister push that is amazing.  I was captivated by her strength.

This photo makes me cry.

First prints.

And…I guessed 3:30 and Lily came into the world at 3:29 p.m. weighing 7 lbs 8.6 ounces, 20 1/4 inches long and  100% perfection.

Lily liked to stretch, a lot.  She was not a swaddler when she came out, you had to tuck her in.  It was apparent it was a little tight in momma’s belly for her.

Bath time for Lily.  Joey even combed her hair.

Mom watching.

This is what I call her “ta-da, I’m here guys!”

A little gift from one of her brothers.

And finally I got to hold my beautiful little niece.

Thank you all for sharing this moment with me.

Oh my, Nothing like a knot in the throat trying to make it through this birth story. I can’t say it enough how great a story is told from within your pictures Diana. I’m also very fond of black and white photography and you pulled at my heartstrings on this one. What an amazing big sis you are to have captured this moment for Ariel. Job well done.

Surprise, surprise, I’m crying. (what else is new?) I love this. And I can’t believe how much Ariel looks like her mom…they could be twins! Lily is already loved by so many..she’ll certainly have a blessed life. Love you lots, Di.

P.S. Maybe I’ll break my only-husband-and-doctor-in-the-delivery-room rule so you can capture my first born. Maybe ;-)
